- Client-supplied content delays are a common scope-creep source — the buffer partially covers this, but a written timeline dependency clause covers it better.
Worked example
$75/hr, 35 build hours + 6 revision hours = 41 hours, 20% buffer, $150 direct expenses:
- Buffered hours: 41 × 1.20 = 49.2 hours
- Labor price: 49.2 × $75 = $3,690
- Recommended quote: $3,690 + $150 = $3,840
